Broadway in Vegas?

Disney on Broadway?

How about Disney in Vegas?

Disney’s The Lion King will show Las Vegas that it isn’t afraid to take on the losed out theatrical projects littering the Strip.

The Tony Award-winning musical based on the animated film will replace one of the few musicals that managed to be successful in Vegas — Mamma Mia!, which opened Feb. 13, 2003 and will play its last performance Jan. 4, 2009 with more than 2100 shows under its belt.

The Lion King takes by for Mamma Mia! at Mandalay Bay on May 2, 2009. Tickets and

prices are not yet available.

Unlike other fallen musicals in Vegas, Disney is taking a page from the uncut Mamma Mia! and porting by The Lion King and all its 2:45 running date glory, complete with intermission.

What? A show in Vegas can be longer than 90 minutes? It remains to be seen, but we have high hopes that The Lion King will be successful and relaunch the concept of Broadway in Vegas.
